AN INNOVATIVE KNOWLEDGE AND TALENT ECOSYSTEM

Opened in 1985, Bizkaia Science and Technology Park was the first Park to be created in Spain. Thirty-five years on, it has become a benchmark both in the Basque Country and internationally.

This innovation ecosystem brings together scientific-technological knowledge institutions and agents, technological companies and start-ups to establish the ideal setting for business creation and development.

LINK BETWEEN COMPANIES, UNIVERSITIES AND INSTITUTIONS

Bizkaia Science and Technology Park acts as the common link between companies, universities and institutions, providing companies with access to the tools that enable them to grow and consolidate.

Universities, technology centres, cooperative research centres, basic research centres, business clusters & associations, advanced manufacturing centres and talent support centres, along with the available scientific-technological infrastructures and companies, are a rich community for generating innovation.

BASQUE NETWORK OF TECHNOLOGY PARKS

The Bizkaia Science and Technology Park, along with the Álava Technology Park and the Gipuzkoa Science and Technology Park make up the Basque Network of Technology Parks.

The Basque Network of Technology Parks is made up of 580 companies and entities from different sectors (including biosciences, energy, EICT, R&D and engineering) and 6,170 are exclusively involved in R&D.

These 580 companies account for 0.9% of the companies registered in the Basque Country and for 38% of total R&D expenditure there.

Among its commitments, the Basque Network of Technology Parks is striving to drive innovation and growth, while respecting the environment. Therefore, in keeping with the Sustainable Development Goals, it has initiated its own Sustainability, Mobility and Universal Accessibility plans to contribute to creating more sustainable and efficient working environments, and to support companies as they undertake and move towards sustainable innovation.

It also particularly focuses on bringing technological expertise to society, and showcasing and fostering the role of women in the fields of science and technology.
